Resources from Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium
The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium has listed several resources for educators and administrators on their website.
"The Ignite Show" : The Common Core of Success
Georgia Public Broadcasting’s Teachers Ignite produced special episodes of “The Ignite Show” featuring state teachers of the year bringing the Common Core into the classroom. These shows were developed by the National Network of State Teachers of the Year and The Hunt Institute in partnership with the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association, and the National PTA.
“From the Page to the Classroom: Implementing the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts and Literacy” and “From the Page to the Classroom: Implementing the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics”
These professional development videos were developed by the Council of Great City Schools for central office and school-based staff and teachers as an introduction to the instructional shifts required by the CCSS. The videos feature some of the content writers speaking about the CCSS at professional development conferences hosted by the Council.
Share My Lesson
Developed by the American Federation of Teachers and TES Connect, Share My Lesson’s Common Core Information Center offers facts, figures, and tips about the CCSS and high-quality resources aligned to the standards across all subjects.
Teaching Channel
Teaching Channel offers a free library of high-quality videos featuring real teachers demonstrating their best educational practices. The large library of CCSS videos includes tags that specify the exact standards to which a lesson is aligned.
Common Core in Practice: Great Teachers Demonstrate Moving to Deeper Learning
America Achieves developed a series of videos demonstrating effective instruction aligned to the Common Core. These five videos show how teachers are putting the new standards into practice in their classrooms and how enthusiastically their students are responding.
Student Achievement Partners
Student Achievement Partners’ website offers a variety of free, high-quality materials to help educators align their instruction to the Common Core State Standards and raise student achievement. Resources include materials and guides aligned to the standards, essential actions for school and district leaders, professional development modules, and information on how educators can support the CCSS outside of the school.
EduCore
Developed by ASCD, the EduCore tool provides secondary teachers with high-quality teaching and learning resources aligned to the CCSS.
NEA Common Core State Standards Toolkit
The National Education Association’s Common Core Working Group produced this toolkit to ensure members have the knowledge and understanding necessary to prepare for the implementation of CCSS.

LEGOS: Going Beyond Building
My son is obsessed with Legos right now. In fact, he received so many Legos for Christmas, it's difficult to walk from one end of the house to the other without stepping on one. Our dog has had his fair share of Lego cuisine (gross!) and I'm terrified daily that I'll walk into my kiddo's bedroom and find him buried in a pile of brightly colored plastic pieces. They're wonderful for building, creating, and imagination. But how can you use Legos in the classroom? You might be surprised.
Debby sent me the coolest link saying, "How cool is this? Kids would love it!" And she's absolutely right. I think I could get my 10 year old to do almost anything if Legos were involved. So, check out these ideas and feel free to add some of what you've found. And if you need some Legos for your classroom, give me a call. I think I can smuggle some out of the house without him noticing. :-)
You can use Legos with your writing!
A simple Google or Pinterest search will give you TONS more ideas. Think outside the Lego box and decide how you can incorporate these treasures into your lesson! Don't forget to share your ideas and finds with us!

Name one thing most people don’t know about you.
I’ve been married to my husband, David, for 24 years this
April. We have three amazing children: Ryan (19 - 2nd
year at Mizzou), Emily (17 - Nixa Senior), Sophie (15 - Nixa Sophomore).

My first thought to this question is always meatloaf!
Upon further introspection, I’d have to say crazy health care costs, freezing
cold weather, and dirty laundry!
I was a stay at home mom for almost 15 years. I
volunteered and subbed in the classroom and in the district offices and, when
the opportunity presented itself, I jumped on board.
The people that I work with and the location to my home!
My family, travel, cooking, horseback riding, boating &
water skiing.
French dark chocolate truffles.
Sky dive but I got to parasail in the Alps last summer which
I think was probably better than skydiving! A safari would be pretty
amazing, too.
Synchronized traffic lights into Springfield.
Wish I had time to read right now…..
My grandfather, F. T. H’Doubler, Sr.

Where is your hometown?
I have two hometowns: I spent my first six years in
Springfield. We moved to Chicago in the middle of first grade, and I
lived there through high school. I came back to Springfield for college, met Steve, and I’ve been here ever since.
Tell a little about your family.

Well, I married money…Steve Money,
that is. We will celebrate our 25th anniversary this summer. We
have one daughter, Alee. She graduated from Nixa High School and is
currently in college studying to be a high school English teacher. Alee
plays guitar and sings in a band called Poor Henry. Their first
performance was at the NHS talent show. So, Steve and I have become band groupies
following
them around wherever they are playing. Our
favorite hideaway is Clearwater Beach, and we try to make it there at least
once a year.
I got to perform with my tumbling
team on Bozo Circus on WGN when I was in grade school. It was interesting
to see behind the scenes of a live show that
we watched every day when we went home for
lunch.
A lot of people think it would be
reading, but my favorite subject was math. Maybe that’s why I have such a
passion for struggling readers now.
Just so we don’t all have the same
answer on this one, I’ll say my big, loud Italian family, the way my nephew
Jack squeals my name when we first see each other, “AUNT DEBBY!!!” and fun, family conversations with Steve and Alee.
Evil in the world…why can’t people
just be nice and get along, bad attitudes, and abuse of any sort.
The last year I was a Missouri
Reading Initiative trainer, I worked with the 5th and 6th grade teachers at
Inman and Main Street. I loved working in Nixa! January of that
school year, I got a call from Todd Schuetz, the principal at Main
Street. He said they were adding a 5th grade position and asked if I
would be interested. I was so excited that I told him I would be over
that afternoon to sign the contract.
Working with all the great
administrators, teachers, students, and support staff in Nixa.
I LOVE hot yoga, working out with Debby Lawson at 5 am, and interior decorating/DIY
projects.
Watching mindless tv after my family
goes to bed…Duck Dynasty, The Real Housewives of New Jersey, Snooki and JWoww,
Dance Moms…anything that makes me laugh out loud.
Go on another big, family
vacation to Hawaii and hang out on the beach with all my relatives.
Pei Wei, it’s the fast food
version of PF Changs
Projecting Possibilities for
Writers by Matt Glover and Mary Alice
Berry, and I LOVE it!
I would love to meet my
Grandmother Mary. She was killed in a car accident before I was
born. Everyone says I look like her and remind them of her.

My sixth grade year made it a toss-up. My reading teacher (Mrs. Dryer) read aloud to us every day, which made me fall in love with reading, and my math teacher (Mrs. Brockmeyer) helped me understand math in a way I never had before.

Since this position is new for me, it's more difficult to see that I'm making a positive impact on students. This is why I really love when a teacher emails me or takes a minute to tell me that something I shared helped them in some way. I still want to know I'm making a difference!
