Curriculum

Navigating the school website:

1.  www.nixapublicschools.net
2.  Sign in using your username and password
2.  Click on "Staff" tab at the top of the page
3.  Click on "Elementary Resources" drop down menu
4.  Select your grade level or topic of interest

Grade Level Curriculum

1.  Using the directions above from "Navigating the school website", select your grade level.
2.  Choose the grade level content area.  For example, "Fifth Grade ELA Resources"
Scroll down and you will see curriculum, instruction, assessment resources.  On the left side of the page you will see a Google Form that you can fill out to submit resource ideas to the Elementary Education Office that you feel should be added to the curriculum page.  Continue scrolling down and you will see the content area standards and resources for the standards.  This is a living document and is updated frequently.  If you see an issue such as a broken or incorrect link, please contact Debby Money or Angie McGuirk.

Instruction

Instructional Practices Guides (K-1, 2-4, 5-6) are available on grade level pages on the Nixa website.

Professional Development:

PD - Workshops offered
The link above will take you to a list of PD available from Nixa Schools, RCET, and online.


Literacy:

Nixa teachers employ Reading and Writing Workshop in their classrooms.  Professional development takes place throughout the year including Literacy the Nixa Way (LNW) training workshops, book studies, and weekly blog posts.


During the first year of LNW, teachers received a copy of Teaching for Deep Comprehension: A Reading Workshop Approach by Linda Dorn & Carla Soffos.  New teachers will receive a copy of the book at the beginning of the school year.  If you do not receive a copy of the book, please contact Debby Money or Angie McGuirk and we will get you a copy.


RtI:

Interventions that Work by Linda Dorn

  • K-2 teachers will have a copy of this book in their classrooms.  If not, please contact Debby Money or Angie McGuirk and we will get you a copy.

Assessment

Summative Assessments

Acuity

  • 2-6th grade (see assessment schedule below)
  • Acuity data will be analyzed during your first LNW training and throughout the year.


Benchmarks

K-1 gives a benchmark assessment at the middle of the year (MOY) and end of the year (EOY).  (See assessment schedule below)

  • Benchmarks are sent out from the Elementary Education Office near the end of each quarter.
  • Middle of year benchmarks will not be turned in to the Elementary Education Office this year.  The data should be used as evidence of learning and should continue to drive your instruction.
